2. Follow the SMILE team for regular #WISHRM22 updates

3. Meet someone new using the FORD Framework

Networking can be a nightmare, but it doesn't have to be when you set a goal to have an intentional conversation with someone new. I had the opportunity at SHRM22 to attend Rob Lawless's presentation - Creating Empathy through Conversation, where he shared his mission to meet with 10,000 people 1:1 for 1 hour each. Today, Rob is 53% of the way toward meeting his goal. So how does he do it? The FORD Framework...

  • Family (childhood/adulthood)

  • Occupation (education/career)

  • Recreation

  • Dreams

Using the FORD Framework, I met someone at SHRM22, and we found a common interest - hockey. My husband and I are season ticket holders for the MN Wild NHL team, and her family are fans but have never been to a game. We exchanged contact information at the end of our conversation, and now she and her family are headed to their first game this season!

4. Explore the exhibitor hall

Who doesn't love free stuff?! All jokes aside, the #WISHRM22 exhibitors are an excellent resource for any process gaps you may have, from HRIS solutions to swag; you can find it here.

Exhibit Hall Hours

Wednesday, October 12th:

4:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Thursday, October 13th:

9:15 AM to 3:30 PM

P.S. Don't forget your business cards because...giveaways!

5. Don't forget to have fun!

It is very easy to get distracted by work emails, phone calls, and the *insert MS Teams notification sound*. I get it; I've been there. However, you get three-ish days away from the office to learn, network, and, yes, have fun, so take advantage of it!

Prepare to be out of the office - set your OOO, delegate, create a path of escalation, and remind your team to ask themselves, "Is this really an emergency? Can I find another resolution? Can it wait until Monday?"

Have a great #WISHRM22 - see you soon!
