How to Manager Resistance to DEI with Dima Ghawi

Levels of Resistance:

Inconvenienced

  • Not affecting me personally.

  • Nothing new.

Unaware

  • I don't see discrimination or hear racist comments.

  • I don't think that I am racist.

Curious

  • I want to listen and learn.

  • I don't understand what is happening.

  • I am not familiar with the history of racism.

Ally

  • I want to be an ally and advocate for minority groups.

Change Maker

  • DEI is aligned with my personal values.

  • I want to be part of the change.

Exclusion is a GLOBAL ISSUE. It is passed down from one generation to the next. It gives false justification for how to treat others.

  • Confidential channel with trusted party

  • Analyze exit interviews

3. Communication and external branding

  • Be intentional

4. Hiring and promotion

  • Build vision on how to develop them

"The customer is not always right; inclusion is."

We Got This with Paul Wesselmann

"Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.”
