As a part of the WISHRM State Conference SMILE Team, I have the opportunity to connect with speakers and exhibitors and learn more about what to expect at the upcoming conference. Today I spoke with Matt Glowacki, a seasoned WISHRM Speaker, who will be presenting Mental Health in the Workplace.
Q & A with Matt:
1. Who should attend your session?
I believe everyone should attend this session, because everyone is impacted by mental health, and most people are looking for ways to help-out.
2. What is the most common barrier you see in the workplace to accessibility?
Accessibility in the workforce has historically been a problem, because it is very hard to find one specific thing to do which could help everyone experiencing disabilities. The best way to become active with support is to be empathetic to what a person might be going through and help them find ways to access accommodations for their situation.
3. What is something attendees might not know about you?
Not a ton of people know that I like to collect and restore lamps.
4. What are your favorite resources or media on this topic?
I would love everyone to take a look at our WI SHRM Accommodateinplace.com website, and take advantage of our resources designed to help you, support your people with their mental health related questions.
5. What are you most looking forward to at WISHRM23?
As the DE&I Director for WI SHRM, my favorite parts of WI SHRM 23 will be sharing the good work of our Diversity Award recipient, seeing everyone who has helped promote the ideas which came out of the WI SHRM and St. Norbert’s Disability Employment survey, and of course all of our JCHRMA chapter members from Jefferson County that are going to attend the event.
6. Anything else that WI HR Professionals and People Leaders should know?
This is a wonderful time to be a part of WI SHRM, and being able to come back together to support each other and the good work of HR, at the Kalahari in the Dells is going to so much fun.
I, personally, am very excited for this session as well. There should be a continued focus on Mental Health in the workplace, tools we as HR should have in our toolbox around mental health, and continuing that conversation beyond COVID. Hope to see you there!
